My daughter Caelyn at her first Mets game, the final game of the 2010 Season, October 3, 2010. Taken on our way out to the car during the seventh inning stretch. The game went to 14 innings and we listened to the 8th-12th on our ride home, and watched the 13th and 14th at home. She got to see the Apple, meet Mr. Met, and get a pretzel and foam finger from roaming vendors. All in all, a very good day.
And Today’s Starting Lineup Will Be…
Hello and welcome to Raising the Apple, my perhaps foolish attempt at writing about the Mets, baseball, my life; how it relates to the Mets and baseball, and how it doesn’t.
I’ll be honest, I’m doing this mostly for myself, and the tone and format will definitely be that of a journal and my personal opinion as opposed to news and analysis, though I read a few such sites myself and so I will have links for those if you somehow got here via a mistaken Google search.
My plan is to start keeping a journal of the Mets 2011 season, talk about baseball in general (including the Hudson Valley Renegades – Tampa Bay’s Short Season Single-A Affiliate – that has the benefit of playing 2 miles from my house), and to chronicle my own personal history with the Mets and the game that I may have come to as an adult but love unabashedly like a kid.
I have some history with the written word, having written several graphic novels (comic books), most of which were personal stories. So, expect more of that here as I tend to hold to that old maxim, write what you know. Also, I very much intend this to be a blog so everything will have that possibly written while drinking (America’s second favorite pastime) first draft sort of feel. I think the academic term is: conversational.
So, again, welcome. Play Ball!
A Word About Comments and Discussion
Comments will be open on all posts and pretty much any manner of discussion is fine by me, but this being my own little electronic pond, be forewarned that I will fish for and remove anyone who writes something extremely offensive or just plain stupid. Who judges these subjective issues? That would be me, your friendly host, and it will be based entirely on my own sensibilities. I’m a father of two so I feel comfortable saying this: If you want to live in my virtual house you have to play by my rules.
Start Me Up
There are many options to begin reading this journal for the first time:
If you’d like to begin reading the posts chronologically, post-by-post, you can begin by clicking here, or you could click here for the first monthly archive.
The main menu along the masthead groups all of the posts by category and the right-hand column contains links to the most recent posts, the monthly archives, and all of the post categories and sub-categories so you can hopefully find something you’re interested in.
